LANCASTER, California — A 10-year-old boy which was rushed from his Lancaster apartment to a hospital with critical injuries has died. A homicide investigation is ongoing Thursday, according to the officials.

The victim did survive the night but was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at a local hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriffโ€™s Department.

There was no immediate information about the name of the boy but a neighbor who said her daughter went to school with the boyโ€™s younger sister, identified him as Anthony.

The neighbor described him as a joyful, happy little boy.

Deputies responded to the boyโ€™s apartment in the 1100 block of East Avenue K at about noon Wednesday on a report that the boy had been injured in a fall and was not breathing.

The incident is still considered to be suspicious. The exact cause will be decided by the Los Angeles County coroner.

Deputies also found another 7 children, ages 11 months to 12 years old, who were either living in the apartment or associated with the victimโ€™s family, the sheriffโ€™s department said. Those seven children have been removed from the apartment by Child Protective Services.
