The concept of all electric trucks is becoming a reality, the Urban eTruck is coming to life and the first 20 customers will be receiving their trucks this year, for a year.
Mercedes Benz is developing the first all electric heavy duty truck in the world.
The initial manufacturing of the Urban eTruck will be a smaller series. This is done intentionally to weed out the problems that are common to occur with any new project. This process is the beta testing process; the end goal of this is to reach full scale production by 2020.
The Mercedes Benz Urban eTruck was first premiered at the International Commercial Vehicle Show in 2016.
The manufacturer is in the process of speaking to and choosing 20 potential customers that are willing to use the Urban eTruck for their business.
The test period is 12 months. Within these 12 months the truck use is monitored and supported by Mercedes Benz road testing department.
The truck will have a range of up to 120 miles, a payload of 12.8 tons and a permitted 18-ton or 25-ton vehicle weight.
The inside of the truck will be equipped with either a refrigerated body or a dry box body or offered as a platform vehicle and the charger is as heavy duty as the rest of it.
